Edward R Murrow
Well, I'm not him, but I did win an award at work recently for helping out as a journalist, or an aspiring one. Due to a budget shortfall (stop if this sounds familiar) I was asked to work halftime as a producer/assignment desk/editor/reporter. I don't go on air, but I do find the stories on wire, internet, or whatever means and send the info and video if possible to the News Hub in Dallas.
It is interesting and it feels good to do something that may help people. The News Hub producers often don't use the stories for whatever reason and leave stuff in that I find hard to believe.
School strike/local fire that burned a apt complex/Mayor of SF going to rehab/fire that burned down part of a senior center/LA fire that threatened Hollywood sign. etc
None of those stories made it to air on the day they happened. School strike was this week. 20,000 kids won't go to school as a result. They didn't carry it the day before. We ran a breaking news crawl anyway over programming, and covered it after it happened.
Frustrating!
